Welcome back to the last term of the year, I hope you all had a lovely break.
Our topic this term is Early Man and we will be looking at the Stone Age.
Literacy: As always our priority will be ensuring that children can read and do so fluently and with expression. Using phonics (Read Write Inc) we will develop our word recognition and fluency in both spelling and reading. Our emphasis in writing will still be on forming sentences and developing our knowledge of punctuation including question marks, exclamation marks and suffixes. As you are already aware all of the children will be put through the Phonics Screening Test in the first week back.
Numeracy: We shall continue to develop our mathematical knowledge. This term we will be revisiting addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, 3d shapes; understanding mass and capacity; money and its value and telling the time, with a particular focus on problem solving.
Science: Children will be exploring different forces; push, pull and twist, gravity and friction.
Art and DT: We will be looking at what materials would have been used to paint and draw early cave art, the clothing people wore, and hopefully recreating Stone Henge.
R.E: We will continue to look at Christianity; Living a Christian life and Values.
History/Geography: This will be Topic based and will include going back in time and comparing early humans to present day humans.
Computing: We will be revisiting everything we have learned this year from logging on to creating a powerpoint.
PSHE: We will be discussing Changes.
Homework: Will continue to be set in grid form and the activities will reinforce what we are learning in class. It should not take more than 10-15 minutes but it is a good start to develop the habit of focusing and concentration.
PE: In PE we will be doing Athletics and preparing ourselves for Sports Day!
As usual if you wish your child to have milk every day an order form is available from the office and as always please label all uniform clearly. PE is on a Wednesday and Friday the children must have kit in schools on these days.
If there are any questions or queries please do not hesitate to ask.
