Year 4 Summer Term Topics
Dear Parent/ Carer
I hope you had a nice Easter, during the first half of the Summer term, year 4 will be covering the following topics:
Literacy: We will be continuing our work on poetry, thinking about syllables, Haikus, rhyming patterns and drama. We will also be considering the use of similes, synonyms and powerful vocabulary.
Numeracy: We will be looking at equivalent fractions and fractions of amounts. Times tables will continue to be learned and drawing triangles accurately will be recapped. Percentages and carrying out word problems will also be covered.
Science: This half term our topic for science is Moving and growing. We will be considering the bones in our skeletons and how muscles make them move.
ICT: We will be learning how to control floor and screen turtles. We are going to use repeat commands and command procedures in Logo and start to consider animation. We will also be using iPads for research.
History: We will be looking at the Tudor period of History, considering the differences for rich and poor people. We will also be studying buildings and King Henry Vlll and his wives.
PSHE: Considering feelings about a special person or animal, the feelings involved with the illness and death of a pet and how people remember people are the topics this half term.
French: We will be considering the vocabulary involved with countries and flags.
The following homework will be given most weeks: Literacy, Numeracy, Science, History, and Reading. Each piece should take no longer than half an hour.
