Viking Ships Sail Successfully!

Yesterday Yr.6 went to sail their Viking ships in the lake at Kearsney Abbey.  They had worked hard to design and build their ships out of balsa wood.  Yesterday was a great test?  Would they float?  Would they be strong enough to withstand the races?

All the ships survived round one, each boat was then raced in a knockout competition.  The final was tough but with Grace’s groups boat left in the middle of the lake the competition was reduced!

Here are the final standings:

1st in the races: Olaf, Kristian and Josh

Most Viking looking Ship – Iden, Kieran and Bobby

Best teamwork – Maddie, Ellen and Isis

We then spent some time crossing the river using logs and stepping stones, climbing trees, tennis football and playing in the park.  After lunch our day was finished off with a pot of pond dipping.  There was lots to catch; water boatmen, leeches, shrimps, sticklebacks, minnows and much more.  Everyone managed to catch some fish, Elsie and Holly were the champions with nine adult sticklebacks!
