Term 1

I hope you have enjoyed your summer. During the first half of the Autumn term, year 4 will be covering the following topics:

Literacy:      We will be looking at stories, myths and legends from different cultures and those stories with a dilemma to solve. We will have Mrs Page coming in to read to us several times a week.
Numeracy:      We will be looking at solving calculations containing terms, reading and then adding and subtracting large numbers, measures using milli, centi, deci, basic units, deca, hecto and kilo. We are also using grids to multiply 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers.
Science:      This half term our topic for science is electricity. We will be investigating circuits, conductors and insulators.
ICT:      We will be writing for different audiences and therefore improving word processing skills.
R.E.:      Year 4 will be looking at Judaism, thinking about some of the features of a Synagogue and about some of the Jewish traditions.
Topic:      We will be looking at AncientEgypt. We will be studying their beliefs about life after death, tombs, pyramids and mummification. Egyptian hieroglyphics and numbers along with finding out about the life and death of Tutankhamun is also part of the topic.
DT:      We will be thinking about journeys and linking this to our Ancient Egypt topic.
PSHE:      In PSHE time we will be considering our feelings and the feelings of others.

The following homework will be set most weeks: Spellings, Numeracy, Science and sometimes Topic. Each piece should take no longer than half an hour. Reading and simply enjoying books at home with your child will also further their development.
