Parents of Ducklings
Dear Parents
Welcome to Ducklings and the Autumn Term. Below is some information on aspects of learning that we will be covering between now and Half Term.
Most of our learning will be done through focusing on different Topics.
Our first topic is Ourselves.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Our main aim is to ensure that all the children settle comfortably into their new school and classroom. We will encourage the children to be as independent as possible, changing themselves, getting things out for themselves and then tiding away. They will be encouraged to work as part of a class thinking about the feelings of others. We will learn to listen and to follow the class rules.
Communication and language: In this we will be learning how to listen both to adults and other children. We shall be following instructions and gaining the confidence to speak up in class. Our focus will be on telling our news from home, explaining the work in our home books and begin to be able to retell stories.
Literacy: Our priority this Term is ensuring that children begin to read and so we will be concentrating on them knowing their letter sounds and recognising letters. To achieve this we will be introducing the children to Read, Write Inc, this is our school phonics programme. In writing we will be concentrating on how we hold our pencil, pencil control and beginning to write our names and some familiar words.
Maths: We shall be exploring numbers by counting, singing songs, learning to recognise numbers and writing them. Next we shall investigate shapes and patterns. Lastly we will begin to add small groups of numbers together.
Understanding the World: Exploring our own environment we will begin to investigate all sorts of objects using our senses. This will help us to develop an interest in our world. Then we will explore past and present events in our lives and in the people we know.
Physical Development: In PE and in our general every day play, we shall develop our control and co-ordination. The children will learn about how to be safe and be encouraged to develop an awareness of space for themselves and others.
Expressive Arts and Design: We will be exploring a huge range of textures and resources. The children will be positively encouraged to develop their ideas and imagination through role play. We shall be using lots of music not only through singing but by dancing and exploring instruments.
Homework: There is no homework but we shall be sending home a book each week which will contain a challenge for you to do with your child. This will then be shared with the whole class. The aim of this is to give parents a voice in the children’s learning and for the child to do a fun school thing at home.
Reading: Please share the books that our sent home with your child because the more they our encouraged to share books the better reader they will become.
General Information: On Fridays children are encouraged to bring something in from home that they would like to share with the class. This can be anything that they like but we do encourage it to be topic related. As our topic is Ourselves it can this term be anything!
REMINDERS:
Please label all items of clothing clearly!
P.E is on a Friday the children must have kit in school on this day.
This is a long letter but hopefully it gives you an idea of what we will be doing this Term. Our main aim as well as learning is to have lots of fun.
Thanks for your support and you are most welcome to come and ask about anything that we do!
Miss Jull
