Dear Parent/ Carer

During the first half of the Spring term, year 4 will be covering the following topics:

Literacy:          We will be reading and writing stories with a dilemma thinking about the build-up and suspense and      the  consequences on the characters of the chosen action. We will be comparing stories with a roller coaster.

Numeracy:        We will be looking at adding and subtracting numbers by putting all the additions and subtractions together first, measuring and calculating the circumference, radius, diameter and chords of a circle and multiplying at least three numbers including decimals.

Science:           This half term our topic for science is forces. We will be investigating magnetic force, friction, water resistance and air resistance.

ICT:                 We will be collecting and presenting data. We are going to create questionnaires to collect data and use computer software to create different graphs.

History:            We will be looking at some countries in Europe. We are going to use iPads to research the given countries, particularly flags, capital cities, neighbouring countries, location within the continent and the outline shape of the countries.

Art:                  We will be looking at and creating lamps using the topic ‘Light it up’.

PSHE:               Understanding oneself as a learner, the feelings involved and barriers to achieving our goals are the topics this half term.

The following homework will be given most weeks: Literacy, Numeracy, Science and Reading. Each piece should take no longer than half an hour.
