Science Club – Eggs

This evening we had our last science club. The theme this week was eggs. We learnt how to find out if an egg was hard boiled or raw by spinning them. Some of us got this wrong and ended up cracking the raw egg! We found that we could make eggs float in water by adding salt to the water.

Although eggs are fragile they are also very strong. The arch shape enables them to spread the force out over a larger area, we tested this by pressing down hard at the top and bottom of an egg and finding that it didn’t crack. we then found out how many books four eggs could hold up. It was far more than our prediction with the highest group holding twenty five!

We made eggs jump across two glasses, designed packaging to protect an egg falling from a great height and took the shell off a raw egg using vinegar. It was great fun!
