Owls Spring Term 2

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our topic this term is Seasonal Changes and Weather. We will be looking at all different aspects of the weather including recording temperature, rainfall and wind direction.

Literacy: As always our priority will be ensuring that children can read and do so fluently and with expression. Using phonics (Read Write Inc) we will develop our word recognition and fluency in both spelling and reading. Our emphasis in writing will still be on forming sentences and developing our knowledge of punctuation including question marks and exclamation marks.

Numeracy: Using Maths Makes Sense we shall continue to develop our mathematical knowledge This term we will be revisiting addition maths stories using the column method and including vertical subtraction ; measuring and recording perimeters; revisiting 2d and 3d shapes; understanding capacity; and reading, writing and acting multiplication and division maths stories.

Science: Children will be exploring different weather instruments and how they work. This links nicely with our topic Seasonal Changes. We will be weather watching on a daily basis to create data to create a bar chart.

Art and DT: We will be creating the seasons using different mediums such as; pastels, paint and collage techniques.

R.E: We will continue to look at Christianity at Easter and Judaism.

History/Geography: We will be looking at different climates around the world and extreme weather.

Computing: We will start to understand what data is and how we can use our weather findings to create a bar chart and pictograms.

PSHE: We will be discussing ‘Relationships’ and what we mean by this.

Homework: Specific homework will be once a week to reinforce class activities. It should not take more than 10-15 minutes but it is a good start to develop the habit of focusing and concentration.

Spelling will also be sent home weekly.

As usual if you wish your child to have milk every day an order form is available from the office and as always please label all uniform clearly. P.E is on a Wednesday and Friday the children must have kit in schools on these days.
