Year 5 – Autumn Term 2

Dear Parent/Carer,

During the second Autumn term, year 5 will be covering the following topics:

Numeracy:  Multiplication and division, problem solving and statistics.

Literacy:    ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo, Victorian Christmas literature and reading comprehension techniques

Science:      Keeping healthy

History:      Victorians

ICT:             Coding, presentation applications

PE:              Circuit training and Swimming

DT:             Moving toys (Victorians)

Art:             Victorian artists, Zoetropes

Music: Djembes – identify music groupings; Christmas songs.

RE: Christmas

French: Our world

PSHE: Feelings, hygiene

This term we will be continuing the Victorians homework choice grid for two weeks. After this, a Christmas themed grid will be sent home, one piece of homework from the grid must be completed each week. Maths homework and spellings focused on a specific pattern or rule will also be sent home each week along with a ‘spelling menu’ containing activity choices.

Reading and simply enjoying books at home with your child will also further their development as will helping them learn their times tables.
