Y5 Stable Trip
Today, half of Class 5 were give the wonderful opportunity to spend the morning at Minnis Moor Stables. The trip complimented this term’s study of War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. The children spent time learning the basics of riding and even progressed onto a rising trot by the end of the lesson. We took turns to ride in a small horse carriage and had the chance to meet the variety of horses in the stables. The children also met a donkey called Star and a beautiful 7 month-old foal. We saw how horses are measured and how they would have been selected in WW1. Finally, we experienced the difficult job the horses would have endured during the war by trying to pull a loaded ‘hospital cart’ ourselves! It was an excellent morning. I am sure the other half of Class 5 are looking forward to their turn next week!
