Happy New Year! We hope you had a lovely Christmas and wish you well for 2019. Our topic this term is the Stone Age. We will learn what the world was like during this time and understand how we know what we do from clues our ancestors left behind. We will learn about different aspects of Stone Age life and about some of the animals that lived during the prehistoric era, including woolly mammoths!
Literacy: Our priority will be ensuring that children can read and do so fluently and with developing expression. Using phonics (Read Write Inc) we will develop our word recognition and fluency in both spelling and reading. In class we will look at books linked to our Stone Age topic. Our emphasis in writing will still be on forming sentences and developing our knowledge of punctuation including exclamation marks and question marks.
Numeracy: We will be continuing to learn and practise reading and writing numbers up to 100. We will also be practising counting in 10s, 5s and 2s, looking at place value and adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers. We also aim to expand our knowledge and understanding of 2d & 3d shapes and money, time and measure.
