Year 5 – Spring Term 2

Dear Parent/Carer,

During term 4, year 5 will be covering the following topics:

Numeracy:  Decimals, percentages, ‘four-rules’ revision and problem solving.

Literacy:     ‘Zathura’ by Chris Van Allsburg, instruction writing and reading comprehension techniques

Science:      Earth and Space (including rocket design and investigations of insulation and gases).

History:      World War II (this term focusing on code breaking, propaganda, evacuation, the Home Front and VE Day.

ICT:              Research, Space-themed game coding using Kodu

PE:               Netball and Swimming

DT:              Space-themed board games

Art:             WW2 inspired art

Music:      Easter: composition and performance

RE:             Easter, Salvation

French:    Technology

PSHE:       Going for goals

Pupils will be continuing with their World War 2 themed grid. One piece of homework from the grid must be completed each week. Maths homework and spellings focused on a specific pattern or rule will also be sent home each week along with a ‘spelling menu’ containing activity choices.

Reading and simply enjoying books at home with your child will also further their development as will helping them learn their times tables.
