The Parable of The Wise and Foolish builder.

In RE Yr. 6 have been thinking about the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This week we thought about parables and what lessons can be learnt from them. We looked at The parable of The Wise and Foolish builder where the foolish builder didn’t listen to God’s word and built his house on sand and therefore was crushed in a storm. The wise builder obeyed the word of God and built his house on solid rock with strong foundations. That house stood strong against any storm and remained standing.

Following on from this parable, year 6 had a challenge;  to build a tower that could balance a bible using Knex. They worked well as part of a group and used fantastic team building skills to make some great towers. All of the towers balanced at least one bible (although one was particularly wobbly!). The children found that the tower with strong and sturdy foundations held the most Bibles. We then thought about how we could apply this to lots of different situations in life such as friendships and and school work. It is important to act as The wise builder did and take time, care and build these strong foundations in life.
