Celebrating Hanukkah

Ducklings, Owls and Eagles (in their separate bubbles) spent Friday learning about and celebrating the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. They heard the story of the Maccabees and the miracle of the oil that burnt for 8 days and nights. They got to light a real menorah and discussed what the story meant to Jewish people all around the world.

They enjoyed a video interview with a Jewish girl in the UK, who told us all about how she celebrates with her family. Also we watched a special report all about how celebrations will of course be very different in 2020, and discussed how we all feel the same way when we miss our family and friends at special occasions.

The children coloured and made their own menorahs, being sure to include the special candles. Dancing is a big part of any celebration so the class listened to some traditional Jewish music, watched some videos of amazing dancing and then had a go at the dance moves ourselves!
