Year 6- Term 5

Dear Parent/ Carer, 

During Term 5 Year 6 will be covering the following topics:

Literacy- We will be reading ‘Rooftoppers’ by Katherine Rundell as a class and focusing on persuasive writing, letter writing and newspaper reports. We will also be working on comprehension and grammar skills.  

Numeracy- Throughout  this term we will be covering percentages, decimals and fractions as well as revision and consolidation of previous topics. 

Science-  We will start our new topic: Life Cycles. We will be looking at life cycles of humans, plants and animals. We will also be continuing our learning of reversible and irreversible change and be carrying out some fun experiments!

Topic– We will start our new topic of Vikings. Throughout the term we will be looking at Vikings and where and why they settled in certain countries. . We will also  be looking at daily life, Viking Gods and Viking long boats. 

RE– Our RE topic is called Kingdom of God. Our big question is- What is the Kingdom of God? We will be thinking about what kind of king Jesus was and the kingdom he created on earth. 

ICT– Throughout this term we will be focusing on coding and creating sequences. 

Music– The children will be studying female composers as well as writing their own songs. 

French- The children will be revising previous topics learnt in French as well as looking at sentence structure. 

Art- The art this term will be related to our Topic of Vikings. 

PE– PE will take place every Thursday and Friday. We will be studying Netball and Athletics. 

A homework grid will be sent home and one piece of homework from the grid is due in every Monday. Your child will also have spellings every week which they should learn, as they will be tested every Monday.

The children also have log ins to TT Rockstars which they should aim to use for at least 10 minutes a day in order to keep their times tables skills sharp. 

Reading and simply enjoying books at home with your child will also further their development.
