Summer Term in Owls

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome to a very busy and exciting final Summer term for the Owls!

Our topic this term is The Seaside! We are lucky to live in a beautiful coastal town and we will certainly be making the most of the better weather to get out and about. We will be learning lots about our local area- the history, landmarks and it’s natural beauty.

In Numeracy we will be working on our addition and subtraction skills as well as focusing on directional language- map following and trail tracking in our local area.

In Literacy we are continuing with our Read Write Inc. sounds and using our new school Handwriting program to get our writing looking super smart.  We will be working towards a big end of year project- our very own local seaside stories. The children will be pulling together all the writing skills they have learnt over the past year to create their own short stories based in Folkestone. We can’t wait to share them with you!

Linking to our seaside theme and big story writing project, in Art and D&T we will be learning about traditional Punch and Judy puppet shows and creating our own puppets.

ICT has a focus on E-Safety and starting to use Powerpoint to create their own information presentations. In R.E we will continue to learn about Judaism.

Homework grids are sent home in their reading records , please can children do at least 3 pieces of homework over this term and bring it in to share with the class.

All children should be read with every day- both the RWI books that come home in the folders and their class reader books. Just 15 minutes a day hearing your child read can help them make big progress leaps, it’s really incredible how much of a noticeable difference it makes to their confidence and skills so please keep this up!

We have lots of fun in-school activities  (and hopefully another trip) planned for the children now that Covid-19 restrictions are easing, and we will be out exploring  the local area as often as we can.
