Wedding Promises

In year 3, our topic for RE this term is ‘People of God’. These past few weeks we have been looking at the story of Noah and the covenant  made between God and Noah and Christians and God. We also learnt about the importance of the rainbow as a symbol, reminding Christians of God’s covenant to never flood the world again. Today we were lucky enough to have had our own wedding in St Eanswythe’s church to learn more about the promises made during a wedding ceremony. We learnt that the vows said between the couple are full of promises made to each other and that Christians believe marriage is a covenant made before God. The children asked some very thoughtful questions and recognised the importance of the ring as a symbol showing the unending love between the couple and commitment to God.
