Yr.6 set up agar jelly petri dishes a few weeks ago by taking swabs from all different places around the classroom. Some of these included the sink, the mouse, the wall, inside their shoes etc. They then left the petri dishes to grow over a few weeks. The different types of bacteria and fungi which grew were amazing and varied. Yesterday, Yr.6 looked at these using electron microscopes which zoomed in up to 43x. The pictures were stunning and so detailed.
We then went on to look at positive uses of microorganisms including the making of food including bread, yoghurt, vinegar, cheese, beer, wine and butter. We had to taste a few of these to help us remember!
