Eagle Class Term 2

Dear Parents / Guardians,

This term our topic is called ‘Into the snow’.

English: In reading we will continue to learn our RWI sounds and then move onto developing their comprehension skills. The children will sit their phonics test this term, so we will spend lots of time developing all the children’s phonic skills.

In writing we will continue to develop our handwriting, word knowledge and sentence structure, focussing especially on recognising and using commands, questions, statements and exclamations. We will learn how to write a variety of poems, beginning to continue to learn about verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs and root words. We will also enjoy writing exciting winter story settings and instructions.

Maths: The main learning this term will be number bonds to 10 and 20, addition and subtraction of a 2-digit number, learning how to multiply and divide, time and 2D / 3D shapes.

Science: We will continue exploring the topic of materials and their uses. This will involve exploring the properties of different materials, including plastic and ice.

History / Geography: We will explore the history of polar exploration, including learning about Ernest Shackleton, Matthew Henson and Felicity Ashton. We will also learn about the Arctic and the Antarctic, comparing the two.

Art / DT: We will explore Guy Fawkes Art, Rememberance day art, create a bird feeder, create pop up cards and look at The Magpie painted by Claude Monet.

PE: This term we will focus on dance, creating a winter themed dance.

Computing: This term the focus will be upon coding.

RE: Mrs Cadwallader will continue to teach year 2 on a Friday. This term we are learning about Why Christians celebrate Christmas. We will also learn about Hinduism.

Home learning: Each term the children will receive a new grid; from which they can choose activities to complete. Please encourage your child to try to complete as many as they are able to complete. Children are able to complete their own activities in addition to those on the grid.

  • PE is on Monday and Friday.
  • Please remember to read with your child daily and write it in their reading record books. We will try to change them as often as possible.
  • Please send your child into school with their full school uniform each day. Please ensure it is all labelled.
  • Please remember to bring a water bottle each day.
  • Please make sure there are NO PEANUT products in packed lunches.

Thank you in advance for your ongoing support this year. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Wishes,

Mr O’Neon, Mrs Reeve and Mrs McAllister
