Year 5 Summer Term 1

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome back to Summer! I hope you have had a relaxing Easter holiday and have been enjoying the amazing sunshine we were lucky to have.

Topic: We will continue our topic of Victorians, looking at Victorian schools and Victorian inventions.

Science: We are going to be investigating The Art of Living; including plant dissection and reproduction of plants. We will also look at life cycles of plants, mammals and insects.

Maths: We will be focusing this term on Decimal numbers and Properties of Shapes.

Literacy: In Literacy we will be looking at how to write letters using formal and informal writing.

Whole Class Reading: This term we will be reading ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty

RE: Our focus this term is Judaism and attempting to answer the Big Question: What does it mean to be Jewish in Britain today?

Computing:  We will be using and applying our skills learnt so far to design an amazing bedroom.

PSHE: Our topic of conversation will be ‘Diverse Britain’.

PE: These lessons will be on Wednesdays and Fridays. This term we will be concentrating on Cricket and Rounders.

Homework: Homework grids will be sent out each term and also put on to Google Classroom. Children choose an activity from the grid each week to take on as their homework.

Google Classroom: All homework and weekly spellings will be put on to the Google classroom for Year 5. Any updates or stand-alone lessons that are needed for home learning will be uploaded for individuals when needed.

REMINDERS:

PE is on a Wednesday and Friday the children must have a named PE kit in school at all times please. Please could all children have a pair of plimsolls in school as we work in the hall in the winter months and trainers are not suitable.

If you are in need of any school uniform including PE kits, we do have lots of sizes available at the moment. Just ask Mrs Perkins on the front desk or myself.
