Judaism Week

The whole school has taken part in an RE World Religions Focus Week- and the spotlight this term was on Judaism.

Every class had a special lesson each day focusing on different aspects of Jewish beliefs, history and festivals. We learnt about the lives of Jews both in the past and in modern times and explored how Jews living in the UK celebrate their important festivals. Some classes got to sample traditional Jewish food and it was great fun to hear ‘Hava Naglia’ everywhere as children got into the spirit of Jewish wedding and danced around the hall!

We held a celebration assembly on Friday where each class shared their knowledge of a different part of Judaism; from important symbols and special artefacts like the Star of David and the Torah, to festivals such as Hannukah and life celebrations including Year 4 children demonstrating their knowledge of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies.

Here at St Eanswythe’s we believe it is important to develop a strong understanding and appreciation of different faiths and these focus weeks certainly bring them to life!
