Year 5 Summer Term 2

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome back to term 6. I hope you have had a very relaxing half term and I cannot believe that we have nearly finished the year and the children will soon be Year 6!

Topic: Our topic this term is The Titanic. We will be looking at all aspects from building to sinking. The children will take on their own investigations as to who was to blame for the catastrophic disaster.

Science: The science topic for this term is Life Explorers; including growth and change, from babies to old age.

Maths: We will be focusing this term on the properties of shape, position and direction, converting units and measurement.

Literacy: In Literacy we will be looking at poems about the sea and at points linking it to our Titanic topic.

Whole Class Reading: This term we will be reading ‘Kaspar: Prince of Cats by Michael Morpurgo.

RE: Our focus this term is Islam and attempting to answer the Big Question: What does it mean to be Muslim in Britain today?

PSHE: Our topic of conversation will be ‘Changes’.

PE: This term or PE lessons will be on Mondays and Fridays. This term we will be concentrating on Cricket and Athletics.

Homework: Homework grids will be sent out each term and also put on to Google Classroom. Children choose an activity from the grid each week to take on as their homework.

Google Classroom: All homework and weekly spellings will be put on to the Google classroom for Year 5. Any updates or stand-alone lessons that are needed for home learning will be uploaded for individuals when needed.

REMINDERS:

PE is on a Monday and Friday but children must have a named PE kit in school at all times please as we also have workshops going on throughout the term.

If you are in need of any school uniform including PE kits, we still have lots of sizes available at the moment. Just ask Mrs Perkins on the front desk or myself.

If there are any questions or queries please do not hesitate to ask.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Edgar
