Year 4 – Term 6 Parent Letter
Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome to term 6 and the final few weeks in year 4. Below is a brief overview of what year 4 will be learning, amongst all the fun!
Literacy: This term in Literacy year 4 are going to be studying the book ‘The vanishing Rainforest’ by Richard Platt. We are going to be learning about formal letter writing as well as producing a persuasive piece of writing to save our rainforests. The children will be continuing their learning on fronted adverbials, prepositions and expanded noun phrases. They will also be increasing their knowledge and understanding of singular and plural possession. In addition, the children will continue with their weekly spellings and daily reading.
Numeracy: In numeracy we are going to be developing our knowledge on time and properties of shapes, along with learning about statistics and geometry. The children should still continue practising their timetables through timetable rock stars, songs and games.
Science: This term in science the children are going to be learning about the Living things and Their Habitats. This will include how to group living things in a variety of ways, understanding classification, to understand the importance of habitats and the impact of the environment, we will also be exploring local habitats, which will include visiting our local pond.
History: This term year 4 are going to be learning about the Anglo Saxons. We will be exploring who they were and where they came from, the types of housing they lived in and how they lived, as well as the armour they wore.
Computing: In computing the children are going to be developing images using repeating patterns.
RE: In RE the children are going to be learning how ‘Life is a Journey’. This term we will also have a whole week learning about Islam.
PE: This term in PE the children are going to be learning about how to play rounders which will include, throwing, catching, and batting. On a Friday the children will be continuing with Athletics and Swimming.
Art: The children are going to be making moving information books, which will be linking to our topic in English – Rainforests.
PHSE: In PHSE this term it is all about ‘Changes’, which we include the types of changes the children will experience when moving up to year 5.
Notes:
PLEASE make sure your child has their FULL PE kit in school at all times and that it is clearly named. PE is a vital part of the curriculum and children hate to miss out when they do not have the correct kit with them.
Spellings
We will continue to choose 6 spellings with a focus spelling pattern. We ask that you please continue to encourage them to write out their spellings and complete extra activities at home. The new spellings will be uploaded each week to our Google Classroom and a paper copy in their yellow books. The children will be tested on their spellings each Monday and new spellings will then be set.
Reading and simply enjoying books at home with your child will also further their development. Please would you be able to write in their yellow reading record if they have read, even if it’s a home book.
I hope this will give you a further insight into your child’s education. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours faithfully
Miss Giles
