Folkestone Fishing Museum
As part of our learning on the history of Folkestone fishing, Owls visited the Folkestone fishing museum. The children walked around the museum and looked at different artefacts. Afterwards they were able to pose questions to two local fishermen. We found out that they have been fishing during storms, caught hundreds of fish and that they started fishing when they were 14 and 20 years old! The children also had a short play on the beach where they dug for treasure, found shells and fishing nets and made a fort.
The Folkestone fishing museum is part of ‘The Wheels of Time’ badge scheme. In total there are fifty museums around Kent that are either free or have a small charge to visit. Each time you visit a museum or heritage site part of ‘The Wheels of Time’ you can collect a badge.
