Year 6 Autumn 1 Parent Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome to Year 6. I hope you have had a very relaxing holiday and are ready for this exciting last year in St Eanswythe’s. 

Topic: Our topic this term is Ancient Greece. We will be looking at what life was like then and how it has changed. Discovering where the Olympic games first started and linking in with our Literacy of myths and legends.

Science: The science topic for this term is Light; reflection, refraction and shadow.

Maths: We will be focusing this term on place value to 10 000 000, add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Literacy: In Literacy we will be looking at myths and legends and linking it to our topic.

Whole Class Reading: This term we will be reading ‘Who Let the Gods Out’ by Maz Evans.

RE: Our focus this term is Creation. We will be looking at and discussing the big question of ‘Creation and science: conflicting or complementary?’

PSHE: Our topic of conversation will be ‘When I Grow Up’.

Art & DT: Art will be based around our Ancient Greece topic. The children will be creating a Greek vase using a scratch and reveal technique.

PE: This term or PE lessons will be on Thursdays and Fridays. This term we will be concentrating on OAA and Lacrosse.

French: We will be revisiting the French we have learned in previous years and looking at the theme of ‘All around town’.

Computing: We will be looking at coding and using a variety of coding programmes.

Homework: Homework grids will be sent out each term and also put on to Google Classroom. Children choose an activity from the grid each week to take on as their homework. Additional homework will be given to children where necessary.

Google Classroom: All homework and weekly spellings will be put on to the Google classroom for Year 6. Any updates or stand-alone lessons that are needed for home learning will be uploaded for individuals when needed.

REMINDERS:

PE is on a Thursday and Friday but children must have a named PE kit in school at all times please as we also have workshops going on throughout the term.
