Sedimentary Rocks

This term Year 3 have been learning about Rocks and Soils as part of our Science topic. We have looked at how the different types of rocks are made, examples of these rocks and have started to investigate how permeable and durable they are. To try and help the children remember how sedimentary rocks are made we used ‘sediments’ of chocolate and crushed biscuits. We pretended to be a river and layered up the ‘sediments’ before compressing them together. We imagined the water being squeezed out and the weight of the layers cementing themselves together over a long period of time. You can see a little example of the sedimentary rock in the photos, the layers are really clear!
