Year 6 Autumn Term 2

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome back to term 2. I hope you have had a great two weeks and enjoyed the very mild but rather strange weather we have had!

 Topic: This term we will focus on the geographical side of the topic of Earthquakes and Mountains. We will look at the tectonic plates and where these lie in the world and how they shift to make an earthquake and even form mountains.

Science: The science topic for this term is Elecricity: We will be looking at circuits and symbols and investigating how electricity is made and where it comes from.

Maths: We will be focusing this term on add, subtract, multiply and divide along with fractions and measurement.

Literacy: In Literacy we will be looking at journalistic writing and being detectives to solve mysterious goings on and reporting these in newspaper form.

Whole Class Reading: This term we will be continuing to read ‘Who Let the Gods Out’ by Maz Evans.

RE: Our focus this term is Gospel. We will be looking at and discussing the big question of ‘What would Jesus do?’

PSHE: Our topic of conversation will be ‘Relationships and Families.

Art & DT: DT will be food technology and we will be creating gingerbread houses.

PE: This term our PE lessons will be on Fridays. This term we will be concentrating on Football skills.

Computing: We will be looking at coding and using a variety of coding programmes.

Homework: Homework grids will be sent out each term and also put on to Google Classroom. Children choose an activity from the grid each week to take on as their homework. Additional homework will be given to children where necessary.

Google Classroom: All homework and weekly spellings will be put on to the Google classroom for Year 6. Any updates or stand-alone lessons that are needed for home learning will be uploaded for individuals when needed.

REMINDERS:

PE is on a Friday but children must have a named PE kit in school at all times please as we also have workshops going on throughout the term.
