Year 5- Autumn Term 2

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back to Term 2.  I hope that you have had a lovely half term.

Topic: Our topic for this term is World War II. We will look at life in the 1930s; Why the war broke out; Who the allies and axis were; What role did women play in the war; Evacuation; Rationing and Christmas.

Science: We are going to look carefully at the forces around us and investigate movement through pulleys and gear systems.

Maths: We will be focusing this term on multiplication and division, statistics and fractions, decimals and percentages. 

Literacy: In Literacy, we will firstly be looking at poetry based on WWII and Remembrance. We will then be using our class novel to write some pieces of non fiction writing. 

Reading: This term we will be reading The Silver Sword by Ian Seraillier.

Art/DT: Our art will be based around our topic and will include painting Blitz explosions!

RE: Our focus this term will be on Knowing God and exploring the question; ‘Was Jesus the Messiah?’

French: Our focus for this term is ‘All about Me’

PSHE: Our topic of conversation will be ‘Family and Relationships’.

PE: These lessons will be on Fridays and we will be covering Football. 

Homework: Homework grids will be sent out each term. Children choose an activity from the grid each week to take on as their homework. As always, these grids are just a guide. Please be creative and encourage your child to do something that excites them! Spellings will be sent home on a Monday to learn for the following Monday. The children have been reminded of their Purple Mash logins and I will set some fun times tables tasks weekly for your child to take part in. Just a short 10 minutes a few times a week can make all the difference.
