Year 6 Explore Earthquake Proof Buildings

We have been learning about earthquakes and where in the world the biggest ones have occurred and about the tectonic plates they sit on. We have also looked at the countries within the Ring of Fire. Last week we then proceeded to look at the effects on buildings hit by earthquakes and how we could design our own buildings to withstand a quake. We used marshmallows, straws and jelly. Everyone’s structure was still in one piece at the end of the jelly quake! We have some budding engineers in year 6.
