Parent Letter Term 3 Year 2
Dear Parents / Carers
Happy New Year! We hope you are all well and enjoyed the Christmas break and that the children will enjoy learning all about the our topic this term, The Great Fire of London.
English: In reading we will focus on developing the children’s comprehension skills. With the SATS approaching, over the next two terms it is important the children read their home reading books as much as possible at home. This will help the children’s reading develop and build their confidence. Please try to remember to sign your child’s reading record book each time you hear your child read. We will also be sending spellings home to practise in their homework books.
Maths: The term we will be learning about multiplication and division and different types of measurement including money, length, height, mass, capacity and temperature. Through games, we will also practise our mental arithmetic skills and times tables.
Science: In Science, we will be looking at different materials along with how and why they are used for different purposes.
History / Geography: We will explore the history of The Great Fire of London. We will look at the history of the events, explore Tudor houses, learn how we know about The Fire and discuss how significant it was. We will compare what food was like then and what it is like now. In Geography, we will learn about extreme weather.
Art / DT: We will explore Tudor houses, use collage and water colours to create artwork linked to our topic. We will become bakers and have a go at baking bread. The children will continue to have art lessons taught by Mrs Giles on Fridays.
PE: This term we will focus on multi-skills. Children continue to have lessons with their specialist PE teacher every Friday. PE will take place on a Monday and a Friday. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
Computing: This term teaching will continue to be by MR O on Fridays. This will sometimes involve using Purple Mash. All the children have a PM login inside their reading record books if they would like to use Purple Mash at home.
RE: Our topic this term continues to be Christianity. This time we will be learning about why and how Christians pray. We will learn about Christian beliefs regarding the stories of Jesus and his 12 disciples and about the 10 commandments.
Finally:
- PE is on Monday and Friday. Please can children come into school wearing their P.E kits on Fridays only.
- Please read with your child as much as possible. Writing in their reading record books is helpful. We will try to change books as often as possible. Children are asked every day to take their reading book home from school.
- Please ensure their full school uniform and PE kit is all labelled clearly.
- Please remember to bring a water bottle each day.
- Thank you in advance for your support this term. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask.
Best Wishes,
Mrs Honzik, Mrs Thomson and Miss Godden
