Year 5 Term 5

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back to Summer term! I hope you have had a relaxing Easter holiday. Please find below what your child will be learning about this term.

Topic: We will continue our topic of Victorians. We will be focusing on Victorian inventions and Victorian Railways.

Science: We are going to be investigating The Art of Living; including plant dissection and reproduction of plants. We will also look at life cycles of plants, mammals and insects.

Maths: We will be focusing this term on Shape, Position and Direction.

Literacy: In Literacy we will be looking at how to build suspense and tension within writing. We will also spend some time writing poetry.

Whole Class Reading: This term we will be reading ‘Wild Boy’ by Rob Lloyd Jones.

RE: Our focus this term is Judaism and attempting to answer the Big Question: What does it mean to be Jewish in Britain today?

PSHE: Our topic of conversation will be ‘Citizenship and Economic Well-Being’

PE: These lessons will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. This term we will be concentrating on Cricket and Athletics.

Homework: Homework grids will be sent out each term. As always, these are only a rough guide. If your child is inpired to do something else related to our learning, this is always welcome. Your child will have weekly spellings to learn. They can choose to do this however they wish but they do have a spellings menu to help them.

REMINDERS:

Your child must have a full PE kit in school at all times please. Trainers can also be worn instead of plimsolls.

If there are any questions or queries please do not hesitate to ask.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Buchanan
