In remembrance of all the soldiers that have fought in wars, Owls made poppies. We coloured them in, cut out the pieces then assembled them using a split pin. They are now on display in our classroom. We learnt about the Road of Remembrance in Folkestone and all the poppies there.
Owls filled up their fluffy jar so to celebrate, we had a party! We had lots of fun making hats, playing games, dancing and eating cake! We also sang happy birthday to everyone who had had a birthday this term.
Following our walk round Folkestone to look at the plinths, we made our own. We used some modelling clay to make something to display on our plinths then decorated both our model and plinth. They are currently on display in our classroom and look amazing!
On Wednesday, Owls went for an autumnal stroll with Tiki around the graveyard noticing seasonal changes and looking for things we find in autumn. We found lots of conkers and fallen leaves amongst other autumnal things.
Owls have been busy using clay to make fish. These were inspired by our work on the book ‘The Rainbow Fish’. We used our hands and some simple tools to mould the fish then carved and decorated them. We will be painting them dazzling colours this week!
Owls have been busy role playing different sea animals. We learnt how shoals of fish move around and why they swim so closely together. We also played a game where one child acted out a sea creature and the rest of the class had to guess what it was!
Year 1 used their creative skills to use recycled tubes to make octopuses. We learnt how octopuses protect themselves from predators and how enormous their brains are! We drew suckers on their eight tentacles and they now look super on display in our classroom!
