As our topic in science is 'materials', Year 5 carried out an experiment. The lesson began with recapping properties of certain materials and thinking deeper about which materials are best for certain things such as a thermal flask and snow boots.
The children thought carefully about thermal insulators and carried out an experiment to see which material would act as the best thermal insulator for a cup of warm water. They had foil, paper and cotton wool, carefully they wrapped the cup up using the material and elastic bands to secure. Thermometers were given to record the temperatures over set times. Overall, they found that the foil was the best thermal insulator for the cup.
Year 5 carried out the experiment safely and were able to handle the apparatus with care. Well done Year 5!
