Glendale House
Weekly Reading with the Residents of Glendale House
Our pupils regularly spend time with the elderly residents of Glendale House, a retirement home situated in the heart of Folkestone's historic Bayle. This weekly reading initiative provides a unique opportunity for intergenerational learning and friendship. By sharing stories and experiences, our pupils and the residents are building strong bonds and fostering a sense of community. It's truly heartwarming to witness the joy and camaraderie that these sessions bring to everyone involved.
The children's visits are eagerly anticipated by the residents, with many sharing how much they brighten their week. The residents' wealth of life experience and knowledge enriches our pupils' learning. They gain a deeper understanding of local history, develop empathy and compassion, and learn valuable communication skills. This intergenerational connection is not only beneficial for the residents' wellbeing but also instills in our pupils a sense of civic responsibility and the importance of giving back to the community. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact this initiative has had, and look forward to seeing these special relationships continue to flourish.
