Glendale House
Weekly Reading with the Residents of Glendale House
Our children regularly visit the residents of Glendale House, a retirement home in the heart of Folkestone’s historic Bayle. These visits give pupils the opportunity to spend time reading and talking with residents, creating valuable moments of connection between generations.
Through sharing stories, books and conversations, both the children and residents enjoy getting to know one another and building positive relationships. The sessions have become a much-loved part of the week, and it is always lovely to see the enjoyment they bring to everyone involved.

The children's visits are eagerly anticipated by the residents, with many sharing how much they brighten their week. The residents' wealth of life experience and knowledge enriches our pupils' learning. They gain a deeper understanding of local history, develop empathy and compassion, and learn valuable communication skills. This intergenerational connection is not only beneficial for the residents' wellbeing but also instills in our pupils a sense of civic responsibility and the importance of giving back to the community. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact this initiative has had, and look forward to seeing these special relationships continue to flourish.
