This week in RE, Year 6 have thought carefully about some of the stories in the gospels and the important meanings behind them.
We looked at the parable of the wise and foolish builders. This text explains how the foolish builder, built his house on sand, taking the easy and quickest route and the wise builder, built his house on a strong and sturdy rock with strong and solid foundations.
The children then thought about the meaning behind this parable and applied it to their own lives: having strong foundations in life such as school, family and religion is extremely important.
To demonstrate this, the children were set a task: to build a structure that was sturdy enough to support a bible. They were given spaghetti and masking tape for this activity.
The results were extremely varied! But we found the ones with the strongest foundations were able to hold more weight.
Year 6 worked well in their groups and were able to communicate effectively to create the end result!
