Ducklings make the best firefighters!

Ducklings began their week with an exciting visit from Matt the firefighter, who shared all about his important job and the ways firefighters help to keep us safe. This week the children were fascinated to learn about fire engines, the special equipment they carry, and what it is like to work as part of a rescue team. This all supported their ‘Understanding the World’ learning.

During COOL time, the children explored their creativity by designing and building their own fire engines using cutting and sticking activities. Practising their cutting skills helps to strengthen hand muscles and develop fine motor control. This is a key part of Physical Development. They also enjoyed colouring in fire engines and creating their own firefighter badges, expressing themselves through art and design.

Our classroom was transformed into a mini fire station! The children proudly dressed up in firefighter uniforms, badges and helmets, using their imaginations to act out rescues and emergencies.

To end the week, we put our skills to the test by putting out a ‘chalk fire’ in the playground using our own 'hoses'. The children aimed, squirted and worked together to “put out” the flames. This was a fantastic way to build shoulder strength, coordination and teamwork.

It has been a week full of imagination, learning and fun. Sparking curiosity about the world around us and inspiring many little firefighters in the making!
