Seasonal Change

In Ducklings class, we have been learning all about the seasonal changes as we move from autumn into winter. The children have enjoyed talking about how the weather is getting colder and why we need to wrap up in hats, scarves and gloves. We also discussed the darker mornings and evenings and shared some of the fun things we like to do during the winter months.

The children have been busy with lots of hands-on activities. They practised their fine motor skills by cutting out their own paper snowflakes, which helped them strengthen the small muscles in their hands. They also loved using our pretend snowballs to play friendly “snowball fights” with their friends. Mark-making has been a big focus too, using foam with their fingers and paintbrushes to explore different textures and patterns.

We encouraged the children to climb and balance on blocks to reach higher parts of the climbing frame so they could make marks with the foam up high. This was a great opportunity for safe risk-taking, building confidence and developing their physical skills.

All of these experiences link closely to the EYFS curriculum, supporting the children’s understanding of the world, physical development, creativity and social skills.
