Take a Seat

Last term in Art, Year 6 have been exploring the exciting world of furniture design. We learned that furniture can be more than just functional. It can express a person’s style, reflect a culture or even tell a story. The children discovered that artists who create furniture are often called craftspeople or designers.

Inspired by this, the class designed and made their own model chairs, thinking carefully about what makes a chair a chair. While some features like legs and a back are essential, the children were encouraged to be as imaginative as they liked.

They considered materials, structure, texture and form to make their chairs truly unique and personal. Using a range of materials, from card and fabric to recycled items, they produced some fantastic and creative work.

It’s been a wonderful project full of creativity and individuality. We hope you enjoy looking through all our amazing designs!
