The Arrival of the Dinosaurs

We have had a roaring start to the new term in Ducklings, as dinosaurs arrived in our classroom. The children were full of excitement and curiosity as they discovered all the prehistoric surprises waiting for them.
Our little explorers became palaeontologists, carefully using brushes to uncover dinosaur bones in our excavation area. There was great concentration as they gently swept away to reveal their discoveries.
In the creative area, the children made colourful handprints which, once dry, were transformed into fantastic dinosaurs. Some added volcanoes and trees to create brilliant backgrounds. We have been so impressed with their imagination and attention to detail.
Out on the playground, teams of Ducklings took part in a dinosaur number hunt. They followed the trail, read numbers, counted carefully and even challenged themselves to find one more and one less. The excitement built as they worked together to complete the hunt.
One of the biggest highlights was finding a mud pit filled with very muddy dinosaurs. The children loved washing, scrubbing and cleaning them until they were sparkling again. There was lots of laughter and teamwork as they worked side by side.
We have also started our new Talk for Writing story, Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs. The children enjoyed listening to the story and helped to create a story map so we can retell it together. They have been inspired to draw their own dinosaurs and some have even had a go at writing some very tricky dinosaur names.
To top it all off, some children dressed up and joined in with the Danny Go Dino Run, stomping and moving just like dinosaurs.
It has been such a fun and busy week in Duckling Class. We cannot wait to see what adventures next week will bring.
