Year 6 have been lucky enough to experience beach school with Mr O’Neon. We started each session with reflection time and thought carefully about what we were thankful for. It was so lovely hearing the children's responses: "my health, my family, my hometown, my life!"
In week one (which was incredibly windy!) we made our way to the pebble beach and carried out a litter pick. The children managed to fill a whole black sack full of rubbish!
In week two, we headed to Sunny Sands and luckily enough the sun was out! Mr O’Neon also told the children about erosion and the effect the sea has on our coastline. Year 6 made a huge cliff with sand and then they acted as the tide, gradually taking away small bits of cliff. It was a fantastic visual reinforcement for the class.
We then had some free time where the children enjoyed exploring the rock pools and finding many different creatures. Some children built sand sculptures and dug huge holes.
It has to be mentioned how impeccably behaved the children were. Members of the public complemented the children.
We feel very lucky to experience beach school with Mr O’Neon and we are already looking forward to our next session later on in the year!
