London Aquarium
Year 1 and Year 2 had a fantastic day on their trip to the London Aquarium. We travelled to London by coach and, after arriving, enjoyed a walk past some of London's most famous landmarks, including the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. The children loved spotting these iconic sights before making our way to the aquarium. Inside the aquarium, there was so much to see. We explored the different areas and saw sharks, penguins, jellyfish, rays and lots of colourful fish.

Canada Day
This week, Year 6 took part in the annual Canada Day Service which commemorates the 305 Canadian soldiers who died in WW1 and are buried in the Shorncliffe Military Cemetery. The memorial service takes place each year on or near Canada Day at the Canadian Servicemen's graves, which is attended by local civic dignitaries, representatives from the Canadian High Commission, the local British Army Command, War Graves Commission, Veterans and Old Comrade's Associations. Year 1 Science – Exploring Summer Through Art
This term, Year 1 have been learning about the seasons as part of our science topic, focusing on the signs of summer. As part of our learning, we looked at Vincent van Gogh's Cypresses. We talked about the colours, shapes and features we could see in the painting and discussed how it reminded us of the summer season, with its bright sky, green trees and warm landscape. The children then used soft pastels to create their own versions of the artwork. They enjoyed experimenting

The Social Justice Network Charity Workshop.
This week, Years 5 and 6 had a workshop with two lovely members from The Social Justice Network Charity. The charity is based within the Diocese of Canterbury and works within communities to alleviate issues of poverty and vulnerability, especially the homeless, refugees and asylum seekers. The children had a good understanding of the difference between migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. They were then shown a clip of a very familiar face, Paddington Bear, alone and lost

Worship Leaders take a Pilgrimage to Canterbury!
St Eanswythe’s Worship Leaders were lucky enough to visit Canterbury Cathedral last week! Dressed as Monks, Kings, Queens and Bishops we travelled back through time as we explored the magnificent building. We stopped off at key historical hot spots whilst enjoying the peace and serenity of the cathedral. Even us teachers were struck by its beauty and the calmness of the surroundings. A key fact we learnt about was that Monks would only have a proper bath once a year in Decemb

Double Dose of D&T
Year Five enjoyed two full days of Design and Technology, which gave us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in our learning and explore our topics in depth. On Day One, we focused on structures. The children investigated different types of bridges and explored how structural strength can be affected by shape, design and materials. We began by exploring structures using our own bodies. The children had great fun creating different formations, carefully considering stren

Science Workshop
The children have been very fortunate to be visited by one of our wonderful parents, Lori Fischer, who is a biologist. She came in to speak to all of the children about bioplastics and even demonstrated how they can be produced from a natural substance... Starch, which can be extracted from potatoes or corn! She then allowed the children to have a go at making their own bioplastics by using corn starch. All the children were fascinated by the process! Thank you so much for vo

Bioplastics
Ducklings class had a super exciting science session with Victoria’s mum. We learned all about plastics and discovered that they are used in lots of everyday things. We talked about why plastics can be really useful because they are strong and can last a long time, but also why they can be harmful, especially to animals and our oceans, because they do not break down easily. Then came the fun part. We made our very own bioplastic. First, we mixed cornflour with water. Next, we
