Thursday morning brought another special treat for the Ducklings – a visit from our Year 5 buddies! The children were excited to sit down with their older friends for a lovely reading session. While our Ducklings are still exploring wordless books as they settle in and we assess their reading levels and sound knowledge, their Year 5 buddies did an excellent job of helping them use the pictures as clues to figure out what’s happening in the stories.
Many of our Year 5 friends are now free readers, meaning they can choose longer novels and books from their classroom or the school library. It was a great opportunity for them to share the stories they are currently enjoying with their younger buddies. Some pairs ventured into the Year 5 classroom to read, while others found cosy corners of the Ducklings classroom, curling up to enjoy a quiet moment of reading.
It was a fantastic experience for both classes, and we can’t wait for another chance to show off our growing reading skills as the Ducklings' progress continues!
