Drama Workshop in Year 6

aedgar5

Today we welcomed back Ian from KIC Theatre to do a drama based lesson linked to our History topic of Suffragettes. We first had a warm up session; where we had to put one hand behind our backs and the other out straight with a pointy finger as our sword and try to touch the opponents hand which was behind their back! We then went back through history, noting that women did not have a voice until the time where the suffragettes made an appearance. We acted out different scenarios about what the women did to get Parliament to take notice of them; some of the things they did were shocking. Some of them were taken to prison and went on hunger strike and as the authorities did not want them to die they were subjected to being force fed via a rubber tube. In 1928 women over the age of 21 finally got to vote on the same terms as the men. The voting age in England now is 18 whereas Scotland has lowered theirs to 16. What do you think the right age to vote should be?
