Today in History we learnt all about historical sources. We know that historians use sources to find out about the past. We specifically looked at historical sources of Mary Seacole, a lady who helped soldiers in the Crimean war. We know that throughout her life, it was rare to see a camera and because of that, we rely on drawings to know what she looked like. In one drawing of Mary we spotted medals on her, indicating she was important and had possibly won something. Studying sources, like the drawing of Mary Seacole, is exactly what historians do to learn about the past.
After our lesson we had a go at creating our own sources. Some children recreated cave men drawings using charcoal, some made their own time capsule fact file and some made their own dinosaur fossils. During our continuous provision a group of children also decided to continue their learning on Mary Seacole and traced around a historical source to recreate a drawing of her.
