Our Year Six class were lucky enough to have a visit from the Child-Centered Police Unit today, they came to speak to us about staying safe online! Our chat began with a question – “How many of you have access to online devices?” It was nearly all of us! From phones, Ipads, Xbox, Playstations - the list was endless, we couldn’t believe it.
During our lesson today we learnt all about:
How can we keep ourselves safe online
The fact that once something is sent, nothing is ever truly deleted
Official ages to be able to access apps such as Snapchat and WhatsApp.
How important is it to have open communication with our parents and teachers in relation to online communications with others.
During our quiz we learnt that the age of legal responsibility is 10! We know what is wrong and right in the real world and this counts for the online world as well. Did you know that it is actually illegal to create pretend profiles impersonating others online?
We did of course talk about the positives of the internet too! How technology has changed our lives for the better. How we can keep in touch with family or friends around the world, how some devices can track us to keep us safe, and the fact that technology is educating us in new and exciting ways every day.
Thank you to Kent Police for a really brilliant workshop!
