Sewing

Last term, our Ducklings were very busy creating their own colourful bookmarks using needles, embroidery thread and binca. This activity gave the children the opportunity to practise and apply threading skills while developing their fine motor control and hand-eye coordination.

With some help, the children carefully threaded their needles and explored different colours and patterns as they stitched their bookmarks. They showed great concentration, perseverance and pride in their work, especially when overcoming challenges independently.

This activity supported Physical Development by helping the children develop the small motor skills needed to use tools safely and confidently. It also linked to Expressive Arts and Design, as the children explored a variety of materials, textures and techniques to create their own unique designs.

These early sewing experiences provide the foundations for future learning. As the children move through the school, they will continue to develop their sewing and textile skills, progressing to more complex projects such as designing and making decorative cushions and even their own soft toys.

We are very proud of our creative and determined Ducklings!
