This term in Owls Class, we’ve been working on a story called The Little Red Hen as part of our Talk for Writing unit. Talk for Writing is a fun and creative way of learning to write stories. It helps children internalise language patterns through talking, acting, drawing, and performing before they begin to write their own versions.
After learning and retelling the story of The Little Red Hen using actions and our story map, we reached the exciting stage of changing the main character. As a class, we had a big discussion and came up with lots of great ideas! We narrowed it down to five possibilities, a Little Red Dog, Little Red Owl, Little Red Ladybird, Little Red Squirrel, or Little Red Butterfly.
We then split into small groups to come up with new actions to match our chosen characters and added them to our updated story maps. The children had so many creative ideas and worked brilliantly together to bring their new characters to life.
The Owls thought it would be fun to record their new actions so you can all see how our story has changed and we hope you enjoy watching our performances! 🐿️🦉🦋🐶🐞
