The Sense of Sight

This week in Science we have been focusing our learning on the sense of sight. We know that our eyes are the organs that allow us to see. We also know there are different parts of our face and eyes that have their own names and a special role to protect our eyes:

  • Eyebrows - stop sweat from entering our eyes.

  • Eyelashes - help to keep dirt and dust out of our eyes.

  • Eyelids - act as a lid to open and close our eyes when they are in danger, for example when a foreign object comes towards our eyes or when a bright light is shone into them.

  • Tear Ducts - produce tears to flush away foreign objects.

We also know that our eyeball has an iris and pupil too!

The children continued their learning during their science themed choosing time and chose to carry out a range of activities, including: labelling an eye diagram, making their own binoculars (to help focus their vision), using magnifying glasses (to improve their vision) and making an eye patch (to test the vision of each eye).
