This term, Year 1 have been learning about the seasons as part of our science topic, focusing on the signs of summer.
As part of our learning, we looked at Vincent van Gogh's Cypresses. We talked about the colours, shapes and features we could see in the painting and discussed how it reminded us of the summer season, with its bright sky, green trees and warm landscape.
The children then used soft pastels to create their own versions of the artwork. They enjoyed experimenting with blending colours and using different techniques to recreate the swirling sky and the tall cypress trees. Every picture was unique, and it was lovely to see the children's creativity and confidence grow.
It was a fantastic opportunity to link science and art, helping the children think about the natural world while exploring the work of a famous artist. We are incredibly proud of their beautiful artwork and all the effort they put into it.
