Year 3 Cloth, Thread and Paint

This term, the children explored how artists can mix different types of art, such as painting and sewing, to create exciting and unique pieces. They learned that using two materials together — like paint and thread — helps us make the most of what each one can do. The children discovered that skills from one kind of art, like mark making in drawing, could be used in another, such as sewing. Most importantly, they found out that art doesn't always have to follow the rules — they had the freedom to experiment and invent their own ways of using materials to express their ideas. It’s been a creative and colourful journey!

During this unit, the children explored the beautiful textile artwork of artists Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle. Inspired by the colours, textures, and techniques they discovered, the class voted to create their own artwork based on a water theme. From swirling stitches to waves of paint, their creativity flowed into every piece. We hope you enjoy looking at their wonderful artwork as much as they enjoyed making it!
